Rohtang pass at an altitude of 13,500 feet is the most important tourist spot for travelers visiting Kullu Manali. The area is the origin of popular river the Beas and many other beautiful streams.The prime attraction of the area is its snow field in Roghtang Pass that makes it one of the most preferred tourist spots In India. The whole area around Rohtang Pass remains cut off from the rest of the region from December to May every year due to heavy snowfall. Beside the majestic valleys and streams, Waterfalls there are many other wonderful picnic spots enroute to Rothang Pass. Rohtang pass attracts. Around 26 lacs tourists every year but getting a permit to visit Rohtang Pass is a major hurdle in exploring this place, also known as the snow destination of India. A holiday in Manali will be incomplete without visiting this snow point.

Increased tourism activities at Rohtang Pass hastened the melting of glaciers at Snow Point and hence. The National Green Tribunal imposed many restrictions including the curbs on the number of vehicles at Rohtang Pass. After the NGT restrictions getting a confirmed permit to visit Rohtang pass has become one of the most difficult things during a trip to Manali. Ever since the restriction Rohtang Pass visit has become difficult and uncertain. As of now travel permit is compulsory for all types of vehicles including private motorcycles (No fee for Motorcycles). No permit is required to cross Rohtang Pass from Ladakh & Spiti side. Rohtang pass remains closed on Tuesdays for maintenance work and tourists permit is not issued. But permit for travel purpose is issued on Tuesdays as well. Without permit vehicles are allowed up to Palchan only.

No Fee is applicable for Motorcycles however an undertaking certificate from Sub Divisional Office in Manali. Permit is required for traveling up to Rohtang pass and beyond. SDM office is open all days of the week including Sundays.

Rohtang Pass permit is available from SDM office Manali on first come first served basis. Documents for Permit can be deposited at office counter between 10 Am to 1.PM everyday. Permit can be collected between 3 Pm to 5 Pm same day.

Permits can be obtained online in the morning & evening. Morning permits are issued from 10 Am for 400 Petrol & 200 Diesel Vehicles. Evening schedule starts from 4Pm for 400 Petrol & 200 Diesel Vehicles.

• Rent of snow suite (Include lower, Upper suites, glovres and snow boots) is around 225-350 /person
• Please try your snow suits and boots before proceeding to Rohtang pass
• Carry food and snacks with you as Rohtang Pass has no restaurants and shops except a small tea stall
• Start your Rohtang Pass trip as early as possible so that you are not stuck in the Manali- Rohtang Traffic.
• Rohtang Pass is not suitable for asthma and heart patients.
• Children can visit Rohtang Pass if they are properly covered with woolen clothes.

Government Plans Heli Taxi Service to Rohtang Pass
The State Government has identified sites for Heli taxi service at Rohtang Pass to decongest the route from Manali to Rohtang pass/Snow Point. Heli Taxi Service would reduce the traveling time to Rohtang and increase the tourist flow in the region.
